Sage Safety is involved in the development of a new SSN Floating Jetty at the Clyde Naval Base.
In carrying out a review of the project our experts advised that the replacement of two traditional dockside portal cranes by eight hydraulic cranes of a low mass and low CG would de-risk the project, both in programme and cost, by providing a simpler and more effective solution and an easier route to establishing a safety justified craneage. Rather than justify large cranes, the replacements we recommended could not cause a nuclear accident in the unlikely event of toppling, even if they did topple. The client was thus able to purchase commercially available cranes from a standard catalogue, for which Sage safety created the safety case.
